The medical term for eczema is atopic dermatitis. It has been termed the itch that rashes. Typically it presents before the age of 5 (90%). It usually does not present in adults. It tends to be more common when there is a family history of asthma, allergies, or eczema. It is not caused by foods, but in some patients food can make it worse. It is not contagious.
