What Areas Are Examined During a Skin Cancer Screening?

Same day skin cancer screenings evaluate the entire body from head to toe.
Patients will be asked to change into a gown in order to thoroughly assess every part of the body, including the scalp, bottom of the feet, and genitals.

What’s the Best Way to Prepare for Same Day Skin Cancer Screenings?

Whether it’s an annual skin cancer screening or an exam to evaluate a suspicious lesion, there are several ways patients can prepare for the appointment.
To start, you should remove any makeup or nail polish and arrive to the appointment with bare skin. This is an important precaution since cosmetics can conceal signs of skin cancer and interfere with the exam.
Additionally, if you’ve ever had skin cancer before, be sure to bring a copy of your records.

Doing so provides essential information about your medical history and aids in accurate diagnosis and swift treatment. It also helps limit redundancy in terms of testing and procedures.

How is a Skin Cancer Screening Performed?

Same day skin cancer screenings are performed in the comfort of our office by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Johnathan L. Chappell.
The exam is conducted through visual inspection and may involve the use of a magnifying glass.
In the event that a suspicious lesion is noted, you will be offered a biopsy the same day. The sample will then be sent to the lab, and results will be available in approximately one week.
